Only about three hours of meetings today. Whee! Lots of techno-babble ahead, so beware. It makes me feel better to vent a little about the silliness 😉

Made some progress on some things and not so much progress on others. Fun error message of the day

EXT2-fs: Magic mismatch, very weird !

And as if that weren't enough pain, I've started poking at the pseries a bit to try to get the installer working on it. In a stroke of pure beauty, ppc64 doesn't properly support kernel + initrd. Instead, you get to build a zImage.initrd (ie, kernel + initrd blob with random ELF glue code). And the only way to make such a pile —

cd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/test/linux/arch/ppc64/boot
make CROSS_COMPILE=”/opt/ppc64/bin/powerpc64-linux-” OBJCOPY=/opt/ppc64/bin/powerpc64-linux-objcopy HOSTCC=gcc HOSTCFLAGS=” -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer” TOPDIR=/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/test/linux/ HPATH=/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/test/linux/include zImage.initrd

It's bad when platforms start making the Itanium look like a sane and reasonable thing to use…
