He's a notorious arachnophobic master criminal in drag. She's a manipulative paranoid socialite looking for love in all the wrong places. They fight crime!

Hmm… whole lot of nothing today really πŸ˜‰

Slept in a bit and finally woke up and started to do some stuff. Kicked off some testing of stuff that just has to run (looks good so far) and finished reading The Pianist — looking forward to having more time to read again. Played a little bit in Zelda, but nothing significant.

Then, went out hunting for a Go set. Since and I had mentioned on several occasions recently about learning how to play Go and she was having a game night, I figured I'd go find a board. Ended up going to Games Galore (where I should have started) and found a set for a reasonable price.

Dinner at Mojo's with some of the usual suspects (and they've changed their menu. the mind boggles) and then to 's place, where I played poker, go and scrabble. All such rousing games.

Left on the early side due to being exhausted for some reason and sat and vegetated in front of the tv. Now, I think I'm probably going to hit the sack. Meeting my dad and sister tomorrow for lunch halfway across the triangle. And then probably spending the day trying to do some work from home while catching up on the Tivo watching.

  1. Twenty bucks for a pretty well constructed set. The board is smaller than some I’ve seen dimensions-wise, but that just makes it more easier to transport.

There are also a number of ways of playing online that warrant research as a way to play beyond beating my roommates into doing it πŸ™‚

  2. i’ll look for one sometime soon. if you find some good places to play online, let me know. the post-doc told me about a site, but it was in korean, so that’s of no use to me. i have absolutely no experience now, but i would like to learn.

  3. mmmm, i saw a beautiful antique go set when i was in san francisco–thick wooden board with feet, smooth pieces in smoother bowls—i could have had it for a couple hundred!

  4. On the changing of the MoJo’s menus

The mind truly does boggle. At least they brought back the jalepeno poppers. Oh for a tilde-hatted ‘n’!

  5. plays Go? And now you? Now I’ve got to get out to a games night. *grin*

I may have a *GOOD* stone set imported RSN. The ones at GG are nice enough, but they haven’t been able to get in anything *REALLY* nice in for a while. All that being said, if you ever happen to be up for a game, I’ve got an open set at the office.

The other set is details of the game and I are playing via email….

  6. We’re starting at least. With slightly different goals in mind — I want to learn to play so that I can then study the game theory behind it πŸ™‚

And yeah, was present and we had already previously discussed your email game that’s been going on since you started.

  7. That’s pretty good after reading over it… much better than the instructions which came with the set. Or maybe having played two short games makes the instructions make more sense πŸ™‚

  8. If you ever want to play a game of Go, let me know.

I pretty much suck at it, but as long as you’re just beginning, I shouldn’t lose too badly πŸ™‚

  9. The one where he makes the moves that are totally out of left field, and then I make really obvious mistakes?

I just like to play, and play to get stronger. I suppose at some point I’ll grok the theory, but for now, I’m just enjoying the game.

  10. Go playing in Chapel Hill

There is definately a group somewhere around here that plays once a week (the triangle) i ve seen them at a coffee shop (which one is beyond me at the moment) but i seemed to get the impression they were rather good…..
