Long day at work today. Second Friday of the month and thus the usual outage window. And we had some things to do in devel.

Spent the morning and afternoon looking into various bizarre bugs. Unfortunately, those take the longest to diagnose and fix :/ Then, went to the Duck and Dumpling for dinner. The food wasn't bad and the atmosphere was definitely kind of neat, but the price was a little bit too high all-told IMHO. Then, back to work for the outage. We managed to get the raid array used for home dirs migrated to new disks (yay for twice as much space) and a few other piddly things.

Now I'm home and wasting time instead of going to sleep like I should. I did build the GNOME sticky notes applet which has been being discussed on one of the GNOME lists to play with a little. It's kind of neat, but I'm not sure that the whole putting yellow sticky note windows on your desktop as reminders of things is quite right for me with the number of machines I generally use. But it's a nice little app, I guess, and for people who usually only use one machine I can see it being even more useful. I think that I can still find some use in it, though, as I can leave myself reminders of things from the night before at work without putting them in a text file and hoping I notice the file the next day.

  1. YAY GNOME STICKY NOTES! I use the MS version at work all the time. I never remember to look at text file reminders, and real sticky notes always fall off. This rocks. 🙂 Once I get RH 8 installed, I’ll be all over it.

that’s exactly what I used the Solaris version for when I was working at Imonics. Fell out of the habit since then, but the app’s good for that. Having a single-signon environment so that whereever in the network I logged in I got my desktop with my mailbox and my stickienote on screen helped too.
