Just got back from Attack of the Clones. It was required that I attend a midnight showing, because otherwise, I just wouldnt' have felt like enough of a geek or something like that.
Short summary: I was very impressed. I went in not expecting much (and without reading reviews) and was extremely pleased.
Wow. Lots of impressiveness. Of course, there were some crappy bits too; let's start with them.
- What's-his-name that plays Anakin's acting was pretty sucky. Then again, compared to wonder boy Mark Hamill, it actually was pretty good 😉 Didn't really detract from the movie, though.
- Some crappy dialogue with horrid puns. Especially as R2-D2 carried 3PO's head across the sand in the execution pit.
- Some of the forbidden love plotline was a bit overdone. Again, though, I have a hard time faulting that much as the same was true in episodes four through six.
But, even with the faults, it ruled. The battle scenes were amazing, the story was pretty well thought out, the setup for later episodes was especially impressive — didn't see much in the way of missed details, though I'll probably have to watch more to see them. Django Fett and the setup of Boba. The clone army. Amidala growing a spine. Mace “Bad Mother Fucker” Wendu. The Emperor. There was so much more, and it was all just amazing. Hell, even the roughly five minutes with Jar-Jar were appropriate and not annoying.
So, the only real question is when I'm going to go see it again.
