Yah, lack of credut card independence isn't great. But in the paper world, two couldn't read the same book at the same time on differnet pages - w/o some tension :-) .

@anieb: Yes, that is the work-around for the problem and probably the approach we'd end up taking in the future. It's just a slightly annoying solution :-)

Just wanted to clarify that this is true if the Kindles are both or all under the same account and credit card. Either one of you would be able to buy a book at any time off your Kindles. The other Kindle wouldn't automatically see the newer books unless requesting it.

Jeremy, I enjoyed your review.

If Kara does decide to get a Kindle and you both decide to put both Kindles under one account and one credit card, then you're set to share e-books. Amazon allows up to 6 Kindles or compatible devices (iPod/iPhone) to share a given book at the same time for no added book cost.

You'd each get copies but would have to make sure that 'synching' is turned off so that when Kara picks up her Kindle to read a book you're reading she doesn't land up where you were last reading.

Everyone I know who has the standard Amazon case for the Kindle 2 really likes it. I finally saw it in person and can see why--it's simple and sturdy and allows for easy reading while still in the case, though I really dislike the Amazon logo on the front.

I have the M-Edge Prodigy Jacket and I like it. It looks very nice (I'd love to have a journal/blank book in the same style), and I feel secure shoving the Kindle into my overstuffed messenger bag when it's in the case, which was my main reason for getting something more than a simple padded sleeve. Reading the Kindle in this case isn't ideal, though--it's possible, and I do it all the time, but the cover doesn't fold back efficiently, so you're left holding on to the inch or so of cover that sticks out instead of the Kindle itself.
